Phones, Wi-Fi & Internet Connectivity in Civita

Not all mobile phones will work in Italy and if some do and you are planning on using your US phone (or your home provider’s service) in Italy, be prepared to pay exorbitant prices for services and roaming charges – warning: they could amount to thousands of dollars. We strongly suggest purchasing or renting an Italian SIM card during your stay with JSS in Civita. To do so, you must have an “unlocked” GSM device supporting the 900 – 1800 frequency range.  Some clients with AT&T contracts, for instance, will find that AT&T will not unlock their phones for use with other SIM cards. If you are not sure what kind of cell phone you have, call your mobile phone service provider to ascertain whether your device qualifies. All iPads with SIMs do support these specs, so no problem there. You can purchase SIM cards in the local Euronics store, as mentioned above. For everything you need to know regarding cell phone use, local Italy providers and SIM card purchases, this webpage is indispensable.

Free Wi-Fi is available at the Relais Falisco hotel, including the area of its charming courtyard, and at The Club cafe in the Piazza Matteotti in Civita’s Centro. There is also free Wi-Fi available in the area of the Piazza Matteotti, courtesy of the Civita municipality but one must have a local Italian mobile number to which an SMS password can be dispatched. Those who purchase Italian SIMs should be able to access this service as well.

We are currently exploring making USB SIMs available to JSS in Civita participants for computer based connectivity and communications.
